Eat Berries and Keep Your Brain Young | Tropical Smoothie Cafe Health News

Did you know that eating strawberries can slow down the aging process in your brain? According to findings presented at the 2009 Berry Health Symposium, it can. Among the studies presented, one showed that older adults who consume strawberries at least once a month have less cognitive decline. And for women, eating strawberries is particularly good. Women who consumed more than one serving of strawberries per month had a 16.2% slower rate of cognitive decline versus those who consumed less.

In addition to helping keep the brain young, eating strawberries may also aid in the prevention of heart disease and certain types of cancer. Researchers at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital are exploring the link between strawberry consumption and cardiovascular disease prevention via an analysis of dietary, lifestyle, clinical, and blood data from 28,000 women enrolled in their Women’s Health Study. As to cancer prevention, the Ohio State University Research Foundation will address the ability of strawberries to suppress the growth of prostate tumors.

We hope to share results of these studies soon.
